Clients and advisors may have many questions that will require answering and therefore, provided below are the most common questions asked by applicants.
Are there any age restrictions?
Anyone 16 years or older can apply for a W2W County Durham moped. If you are under 18 you will need permission from a parent or guardian.
Do I need a licence?
Yes. Everyone will be required to hold a minimum of a Provisional Driving Licence with at least 6 months duration left. You will be required to show us your original licence before we loan you a moped.
How much will the Moped Scheme cost?
The cost is £30 in addition you will need to pay an up front payment. The loan cost also includes a helmet, high visibility vest and a heavy duty lock, insurance (moped only), tax, breakdown cover as well as servicing of the moped.
How many hours work, apprenticeship or attendance at further education do I need?
There is no minimum hours requirement for employment and apprenticeships however training courses must be a minimum of 16 weeks.
Do I need to be in a job or already attending a course?
You don't need to be in employment or on your course already, but you do need to have a firm offer of a job or place on a course. We will contact your employer or learning provider to confirm this.
How long can I use the moped for?
There is a minimum period of 6 months. You may be able to extend this if you still meet the criteria.
What Insurance is provided with the vehicles and what is insurance excess?
All W2W mopeds are insured however personal injury insurance is not included. Every rider agreeing to take part in the moped scheme will be required to agree to pay up to a maximum of £250 for damage per incident or if stolen, written off. There is no guarantee if your moped is stolen or written off that you will receive a replacement. If your moped is stolen and you didn't leave it in a secure place in line with our terms and conditions you will be liable for the full replacement cost. As a charity we will often not require this money to be paid upfront and therefore a payment plan will be discussed, agreed with the individual and implemented.
Prior to any rider paying for any damage , they will be provided with a comprehensive breakdown of damage caused and the cost to repair the moped.
To comply with the insurance conditions you must not have been involved in a motor vehicle accident in the last 3 years, convicted of any motoring offences or have any prosecution pending, suffer from any physical or mental illness or incapacity that impacts your ability to ride safely or would invalidate an insurance policy.
